    Pocahontas (c. 1595 – March 21, 1617),
later known as Rebecca Rolfe, was a Virginia Indian chief's daughter notable for having assisted
colonial settlers at Jamestown. She converted to Christianity and married the
English settler John Rolfe in April 1614.
She was a daughter of Wahunsunacawh, better known as Chief or Emperor Powhatan
(to indicate his primacy), who headed a network of tributary tribal nations in the Tidewater region
of Virginia (called Tenakomakah by the Powhatan). These tribes made up what is known as the
Powhatan Chiefdom and spoke a language of the Algonquian family.
Powhatan gave the newlyweds property just across the James River from Jamestown. time.
On what, in modern terms, was a "public relations trip" for the Virginia Company, Pocahontas
and Rolfe traveled to England in 1616 with their baby son, where the young woman was widely
received as visiting royalty. However, just as they were preparing to return to Virginia, she
became ill and died. Their young son Thomas Rolfe survived, and stayed in England
while his father returned to the colony.
She was buried in a church in Gravesend, but the exact location of her grave is unknown.
In 2014 Jamestown archaeologist Bill Kelso will travel to England in an effort to locate
    where Pocahontas is buried.
