Description
Beautiful certificate from the Wang Laboratories, Inc. issued in 1995. This historic document was printed by the United States Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of the company name. This item has the printed signatures of the Company's President, and Secretary, and is over 25 years old.Wang Laboratories was a computer company founded in 1951 by Dr. An Wang and Dr. G.Y. Chu.
At its peak in the 1980s, Wang Laboratories had annual revenues of billion and over 33,000 employees.
An Wang immigrated to the U.S. from Shanghai in 1945, and earned a Ph.D. in applied physics from Harvard University.
Under his technological and managerial guidance Wang Labs soon became one of the most recognized and successful corporations in the dawn of the Information Age. In 1965, Wang introduced"LOCI," the first desktop computer to generate logarithms at a single key stroke. The LOCI technology formed the basis of the later Wang electronic desk calculator.
In the 70s and 80s, Wang's own inventions helped Wang Labs become a major manufacturer of desktop computers used in schools and labs. Wang oversaw a series of more compact and efficient instruments and systems for use in office automation and information processing.
Wang Laboratories filed for bankruptcy protection in August 1992. After emerging from bankruptcy, the company later changed its name to Wang Global. In1999, Wang Global was acquired by Getronics.
There is a fold crease in the certificate and some small stains visible on the back (see pics).
